Community amenities at Vistancia, from the lap pool to the Discovery Trail, will be utilized when Valley athletes meet for the inaugural Sprint Triathlon at Vistancia in Peoria starting at 8 a.m. March 28. The event is open to the public.

Competition will begin with a 400-meter swim in the Mountain Vista Club lap pool, one of two community aquatic facilities. Participants will then bike 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) through the Vistancia community including the private, gated Blackstone Country Club. Participants will finish with a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) run along the Discovery Trail, a 3.5-mile linear park linking the community's neighborhoods to amenities, the elementary school and shopping. Its themed gardens, wildlife watch areas, solar garden, parks and picnic areas will give runners a peek into the natural surroundings that residents enjoy everyday.

"This event comes by popular demand from Vistancia residents," said Monica Hollins, lifestyle director at Vistancia. "The amenities here lend themselves to an event like this." Vistancia has partnered with 4 Peaks Racing for the management of the event.

The chip-timed event will conclude with a ceremony to award the top three males and females according to overall finish time, age group, Clydesdale (men weighing more than 200 pounds), Athenas (women weighing more than 150 pounds) and relay.
