- Channel 3's Dave the Garden Guy and Culinary Icon Barbara Fenzl to Highlight -
Valley residents can learn how to plan a southwestern party for 20, sample award-winning salsas from AJ's Fine Foods and Timoteo Salsa Company and meet Channel 3's Dave the Garden Guy at the Vistancia Home and Garden Fall Festival Oct. 4-5.
The free event, open to the public, takes place at the 7,100-acre Vistancia master planned community located northwest of Lake Pleasant Road and Happy Valley Parkway in north Peoria from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day.
Demonstrations featuring local businesses and design professionals will be scheduled throughout the two-day event. Vistancia Village, Trilogy at Vistancia and Blackstone Country Club will open their models for viewing and fun activities.
"The festival is a perfect place for Valley residents to get fresh and exciting ideas on how to spruce up their homes, yards and even their cooking," said Curt Smith, chief operating officer for Sunbelt Holdings, the developer of the community in a partnership with Shea Homes.
On Saturday morning, Channel 3's The Garden Guy, Dave Owens, will kick off the event with two seminars on taking care of your lawn and garden during the fall and winter seasons. He will answer common landscaping dilemmas including the best time to spread wildflower seeds, the "magic" ingredient no garden should be without and what to plant alongside roses. Owens is a renowned gardening expert and owner of Poco Verde Landscape in Tempe.
Home Depot clinics including a faux finish painting class and a do-it-yourself tile and backsplash class will follow, offering a cost efficient way for Valley residents to add value to their homes. Taking place in the community's Mountain Vista Club, participants will benefit from hands-on instruction.
On Sunday, certified culinary professional, three-time cookbook author and television personality Barbara Fenzl will demonstrate how to host a fall southwestern party for 20.
The four-course menu will include an appetizer of smoked salmon and poblano toasts; creamy chayote squash soup; an entree of marinated pork tenderloin with avocado sauce and potato casserole with Mexican cheeses; and double chocolate, ancho and chile tart for dessert. Select sampling will be available for guests.
Appropriately, a salsa tasting exhibit will follow. A number of different salsas will be available for tasting courtesy of AJ's Fine Foods with Timoteo Salsa, a multi-award winning Valley salsa company, demonstrating how to make hot and mild salsas.
Vistancia Village models will offer creative fall decor ideas both Saturday and Sunday. Energy efficient homes, creating an organized home environment and home theatre know how are scheduled for Saturday while WINE AND CHEESE TASTING and a landscaping how-to is set for Sunday.
Trilogy will host two Desert Botanical Garden clinics each day including sessions on historic and modern connections with plants and their multiple uses, beginning desert photography, edible desert landscape and how to attract watchable wildlife such as hummingbirds, butterflies and tortoises.
Blackstone Country Club models will feature Robb & Stucky senior designers at 2 p.m. each day. Designers Gail Huff and Carrie Schuler will show how couture fashion and home fashion can become one with the hottest color trends of 2008 and 2009.
