The residents of Vistancia welcomed the cooler temperatures of fall with a lively Harvest Festival on Oct. 28, carving pumpkins, visiting a petting zoo and enjoying a homemade pie contest.
Families flocked to the event, held on the event lawn of the Mountain Vista Club activity center in the north Peoria community. Toting their pies and their little monsters, princesses and super heroes for the Halloween costume contest, the residents and their guests quickly were surrounded by the sights and scents of fall.
After guessing the number of candy corn placed in a large Halloween container, the children and their parents could be found at the scarecrow stuffing station or carving many different ghoulish works of art at the pumpkin carving station.
Families lined up to play flag football against their guests, while also enjoying a football toss, sack races, a three-legged race and even gourd bowling.
Children at the festival mingled with baby goats and sheep in the petting zoo before lining up for delicious fall treats like kettle corn, caramel apples and hot cider.
The costume contest was a spooky success with parents and children dressing up as everything from Harry Potter to pirates and little princesses. Awards were handed out for the best costumes as well as for the most creative pumpkin and the best homemade pie.
Since first opening its doors in 2004, Vistancia has quickly built a strong sense of
community. With its own elementary school, fire station and 35 model homes to choose from, the 7,100-acre master planned Vistancia offers something for everyone.
Vistancia is located northwest of Lake Pleasant Road and Happy Valley Parkway in Peoria.
